María José Aguilar Carrillo, known artistically as Majo Aguilar, was born on June 7, 1994, in Mexico City. She comes from one of the most iconic families in Mexican music, as the granddaughter of Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, and the daughter of Antonio Aguilar Jr.

From a young age, Majo showed her passion for singing, writing, and dancing. She wrote her first song at only six years old and has continued to pursue her artistry ever since. Following her family’s tradition, she debuted in ranchera music with her acclaimed album Mi Herencia, Mi Sangre in 2021, solidifying her place as one of the rising voices of Mexican music.

Her motto, “Puro Amor”, reflects her belief in singing with heart and connecting deeply with audiences through her music.

Majo has quickly become one of the most recognized young artists in the genre. She has earned nominations at the Latin Grammy Awards, Premio Lo Nuestro, Premios Juventud, and has been recognized with multiple nominations for Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album and Female Artist of the Year. In 2023, she received her first Latin Grammy nomination for Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album. By 2025, she has continued this streak with top nominations for Song of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.

Her most recent projects include the albums Mariachi Mío (2023), Mariachi y Tequila (Deluxe) (2024), and Se Canta con el Corazón (Deluxe) (2023). Singles like No Pidas Perdón, Bailar Contigo, and Piel Azteca have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams and views across Spotify and YouTube, further establishing her as one of the most promising figures in the new generation of ranchera artists.

Beyond her music, Majo has become a cultural presence. She has performed the National Anthem at the Rose Bowl Classic in front of more than 80,000 people, served as a judge on TV Azteca’s Music Battles México, joined Ana Bárbara on a U.S. tour, and was named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico by Forbes in 2025.
